Do you have your inhaler? Did you take your preventative today? Did you take your allergy meds? These are questions asthmatics have to ask themselves before leaving home for the day. The disease is not only frustrating, but leaves one wondering – what will my family do if this disease wins? How will they survive?
You’re asking all the right questions. Watch this short video, or read the transcript, to learn more about how you can protect your family with life insurance when you have asthma.
Asthma is a very insurable condition.
The only thing that will vary with asthma is whether we’re talking about exercise-induced asthma, whether we’re talking about full-blown asthma. The thing that may be the difference between a regular rate or a table rate will be whether or not you are using a steroidal inhaler. Typically with a steroidal inhaler, we will see offers of table two to table four, depending upon how often you have attacks and so forth. If you’ve ever been hospitalized, how long has it been since you were last hospitalized? Or if it’s just exercise-induced or allergy induced, and you’re on one or two meds and maybe a rescue inhaler, but they are non-steroidal. We can generally see offers anywhere from Preferred to Standard typically. But again, if you’re using a steroid inhaler, it’s gonna be a table rate situation.
Well, you have other respiratory issues such as the COPD, which generally will come most of the time, from people who have smoked in the past. Offers can be obtained with COPD. Again, depending upon the severity, how bad the breathing situation is, how long you’ve had the condition. I have seen some people that have been diagnosed with COPD that still continued to smoke, and of course, I say to them I’m sorry, I can’t help you. But we can get offers with COPD again, depending upon severity and how long you’ve had it.
Although your rates might be higher than someone who is very healthy, life insurance coverage with asthma is possible!
