Nobody thinks they need life insurance. Until they do. Here’s another all-too-common tale that explains why life insurance is so important. Meet Nicolas Virgen.
As we all know, life can change in an instant. One minute things can be going great, and the next minute, your life can get turned upside-down. It happens more often than you think. Just listen to Nicolas’s story.
A building contractor, Nicolas Virgen, his wife, Teresa and two of their kids were coming home from a party at about 11 p.m. Suddenly their pickup was slammed by a hit-and-run driver. The truck violently rolled over. Though his son, Gabriel and daughter, Mayra only suffered minor injuries, Nicolas sustained multiple fractures and broken vertebrae. But worst of all, Teresa was dead before the ambulance arrived at the scene.
Picking up the pieces was hard. But they did have help. The family had life insurance. Nicolas understood that he needed life insurance. But he didn’t see the point of purchasing a policy for his wife. After all, she just stays at home and takes care of the kids. No work there, right?
Enter insurance agent Irene Henry. When Teresa was still alive, Irene recommended to Nicolas that he take out a life insurance policy on Teresa. Irene told him that if you had to pay for all the jobs that Teresa does for free, it would cost the family a pretty penny. Nicolas finally agreed. It was the most important decision he ever made.
The life insurance helped the family slowly move on. Nicolas was out of work for nearly two years, recovering his injuries from the hit-and-run. The money from Teresa’s policy helped pay a lot of bills. And it also helped pay for some college expenses for Mayra and her older sister, Susana. “It’s like Teresa is still watching over us and taking care of us,” Nicolas says.
